Weekend getaway from Delhi – Fort Unchagaon
Are you looking for a perfect weekend getaway from Delhi/ NCR? Are you bored out of Neemrana and Jim Corbett for the weekend trips and looking for a place just as magical? Are you looking for an extraordinary and majestic destination around Delhi that is not very popular and crowded? Yes!
Recently, I did a weekend trip to Fort Unchagaon, some 120 Kms from Delhi. I must say this place is a real treat. It is a go-to destination for a romantic holiday, wedding anniversary, special occasion or just-another break.
Fort of the Maharaja
Fort Unchagaon is an early 19th century fort, inherited by Raja Surendra Pal Singh in 1927. The palace was renovated to reflect blend of Indian and Colonial architecture. Being the private domicile of Prince, the décor is authentically aristocratic. The property is run as a resort by Aspen Adventures.
I had a magnificent and royal stay. The historical feel, gorgeous views, mesmerizing interiors, eye catching flora, verdant lawns and traditional charm of the fort made me forget the outside world. The adjacent mango orchard and horse shed brought back childhood picnic memories.
The staff is helpful and available when you need them. The service staff treats you like royal family. Be it a private bonfire for just two of you or a private tour of property, they find pleasure in fulfilling every request of guests. I have been to many properties in past, but this one certainly won my heart in terms of staff.
Go back in time
The corridors, chandeliers, wooden doors, tiger skin, huge paintings, antiques, old cameras and almost everything will take you years back in time. The living room is spacious, with eloquent memorabilia from the old times. The wooden roof with black wooden beams, old light switches reminded me of my grandfather’s home. It was a truly a journey to the past and I would certainly like to revisit this palace soon.
The billiards room, library and drawing room reflects style and are perfect epitome of grandeur. Royalty is encapsulated in the air. It is surely a destination that has survived swarming of tourists and this makes it a romantic as well as offbeat destination.
A perfect weekend getaway
I enjoyed walk in the mango orchard in the forenoon and played badminton in the evening. You can indulge into sports like swimming, billiards, squash and badminton. You will certainly love the warmth of bonfire underneath the sky. You can find the tariff and other details here . I will recommend you this place if you are looking for a perfect weekend getaway from Delhi.
